For Large-Scale Industrial Fire Protection
American Fire Company in Valparaiso, Indiana provides fire pump services such as repairs and installations for large-scale use. When your industrial establishment is too large for a conventional commercial sprinkler system, you might want to consider getting the big guns for the job.
What is a Fire Pump?
Essentially, a fire pump forms an important part of a fire sprinkler system’s water supply, and it may be powered by diesel or steam engines. You can either have it connected to the public water supply piping, or to your very own source of water. The advantage of this system is that it provides your sprinkler system water flow at a higher pressure.
When do I Need a Fire Pump?
Fire pumps are needed when the local municipal water system cannot provide sufficient pressure to meet the hydraulic design requirements of the fire sprinkler system. This usually occurs if the building is very tall, such as in high-rise buildings, or in systems which require a relatively high terminal pressure at the fire sprinkler in order to flow a large volume of water, such as in storage warehouses. Fire pumps are also needed if fire protection water supply is provided from a ground level water storage tank. Types of pumps used for fire service include: horizontal split case, vertical split case, vertical inline, vertical turbine, and end suction.
